Hi. I am Francesca oh! I am the 11thchild out of thirteen, born to a seamstress mother. I remember begging her to let me sew with more than a needle and thread. I finally got my wish when I was 7.
In high school, I played designer, making a least one outfit a week. I received my BFA in 1983 as part of the first graduating fashion design class of Otis-Parsons School of Art and Design in Los Angeles. Junior year, I went to Parsons of New York. That year I won the Parsons’ award for the Fall Season’s best design in lingerie, the “Silver Thimble”. After graduating I worked in Taiwan as an assistant sweater designer. A year and a half later I moved to San Francisco and worked as a dress designer. In 1985 I launched my own line: Variance. Variance was best known for hand painted silks and crinkle silk clothing.
In 1993 I closed shop after my first son was born. Since then I have costumed for my children’s school plays as well as professionally.
Two years ago I worked with Goodwill on their Silicon Valley Eco Chic Fashion show, subsequently this inspired my “Repurposed” line.
I also have continued with more traditional designing that I call my “Classics.”
